DQ400 Repair – Fault P288400

In various models such as the Volkswagen Golf GTE and Audi E-tron with the DQ400 DSG transmission, a fault can occur with error code P288400. This fault can cause the petrol engine to no longer start.

The cause often lies in the mechatronics of the DSG transmission.

 

Cause of the fault

A gasket is installed in the mechatronics of the DQ400 gearbox, which incorporates a small sieve (filter). This sieve is intended to retain dirt particles from the oil before they reach the hydraulic components.

    If the sieve enters the solenoid, it can mechanically damage and block the solenoid.

    Consequence of the problem

    When the solenoid no longer functions correctly, the transmission cannot transmit the correct hydraulic pressure.

    In plug-in hybrid vehicles such as the Golf GTE and Audi E-tron, this can ultimately lead to:

    • the transmission going into fault mode

    • the hybrid drive being limited

    • the petrol engine being unable to start (most common)

    Repair

    During the repair of this fault, it is important to check the mechatronics for internal contamination and damaged components.

    In many cases, it is found that:

    • the sieve is missing from the gasket

    • parts of the sieve have entered a solenoid

    • the solenoid is damaged or blocked

    The photos in this project show where the sieve is normally located and where it can end up in the solenoid.

    Solution

    The solution usually consists of:

    • replacing the damaged solenoid

    • replacing the gasket with integrated sieve

    • cleaning the mechatronics

    Special parts are required for this repair, which are often not available as standard.

    Repair solution

    For this problem, we supply a specific repair kit for the DQ400 mechatronics, which can effectively resolve this fault.

    This kit includes, among other things:

    • Required gaskets

    • Solenoid

    • Detailed manuals

    This allows the transmission to function correctly again and the fault P288400 to be resolved.
